Staying across changes in local government leadership is important for any business operating on the Gold Coast, and there's a significant transition currently underway at City Hall that members should be aware of.

Gold Coast Council Leadership Change

A period of leadership transition is underway at City Hall. Chief Executive Officer Tim Baker announced on 22 July 2026 that he will not seek renewal of his contract, concluding his tenure with the City of Gold Coast in December 2026. Baker oversaw a major restructure during his time in the role, though his departure comes amid reports of personal attacks directed at him.

For local businesses, continuity of council relationships and strategic planning will be important to monitor in the months ahead. The MCC will keep members informed as the search for new leadership progresses.

We encourage all members to stay engaged with local government developments during this transition period. If you have questions or concerns about how these changes may affect your business, reach out to the Mudgeeraba Chamber of Commerce — we're here to help keep you informed and connected.
